Can Mouthrinses Reduce Transmission of SARS-CoV-2?

A review of the literature published in Function suggests that mouthrinses may be able to penetrate the lipid envelope that encases the novel coronavirus and its spike glycoproteins that cause the infection. The review notes that mouthrinses containing 60% to 70% ethanol showed the most immediate inactivation of the virus. Study authors stated that more research on the role of oral antiviral approaches in deactivating the virus is needed before any consensus can be reached. Read more here.
