Angie Stone, RDH, BS, is the founder of HyLife Oral Care Services, a network of dental hygienists based in Edgerton, Wisconsin, that provides care to dependent older adults. Stone, heartbroken upon witnessing the deteriorating dental health of her grandmother, established HyLife to help dependent older adults maintain adequate oral hygiene. As facility staff members often receive no training in oral hygiene, dependent older adults are at high risk of oral disease. HyLife fills this need by providing on-site dental care visits to patients who reside in assisted living/long-term care facilities once per week, helping patients clean their natural dentition and/or partial or removable dentures and perform interdental cleaning, in addition to supplying patients with 100% xylitol sweetened mints, xylitol toothpaste, and a toothbrush. The company operates in five states: Wisconsin, Minnesota, Florida, Illinois, and Iowa. Stone’s hope is that the company will continue to grow across the United States, so that no one—regardless of age or health status—suffers from lack of oral health care.
