Death Rates May Be Lower in the Fourth COVID-19 Surge

While the easily transmissible Delta variant rages on throughout the world, there may be a silver lining. It seems that the death rates during this COVID-19 surge are significantly lower than in the previous three. This is due to the availability of COVID-19 vaccines, and, as more people are immunized, death rates should continue to decrease. Experts suggest that even though infection rates will continue to rise, the number of deaths will not. This represents the first time we’ve seen a separation of infection rates from death rates during the pandemic. The United Kingdom has already experienced such an uncoupling.
