Human-to-Animal Transmission of Coronavirus Found

The Bronx Zoo in New York City announced that a few of its tigers, including sisters Nadia and Azul, have been infected with the coronavirus. The tigers acquired the infection via an asymptomatic zoo employee with COVID-19. While the rest of New York City is shut down sheltering in place, the zoo must keep its operations running to ensure the well being of the more than 6,000 animals that reside there.

Anecdotal evidence from China suggests that the virus passes easily from humans to felines via respiratory droplets. As such, the United States Department of Agriculture recommends that those with COVID-19 should limit their exposure to animals, including pets. Read more here.
