University of Manitoba Participates in COVID-19 Research

Dental and dental hygiene students, faculty and staff at University of Manitoba (UM) will be asked to contribute saliva samples to a COVID-19 research study.

Dental and dental hygiene students, faculty and staff at University of Manitoba (UM) will be asked to contribute saliva samples to a COVID-19 research study. The project will study COVID-19 infection rates of dental personnel at 10 dental schools across Canada. 

 Bob Schroth, DMD MSc PhD,  professor of preventive dental science in the Dr. Gerald Niznick College of Dentistry and of pediatrics/child health and community health sciences in the Max Rady College of Medicine, will serve as UM’s project lead. 

 Volunteers will submit monthly saliva samples using at-home self-testing kits. They will also complete a monthly online questionnaire. Participants who test positive for COVID-19 will be asked to provide additional saliva samples. Read more about the study at: news.umanitoba.ca/dentistry-saliva-study/
