Oral health professionals need to be aware of the symptoms of domestic violence and understand how to effectively assist victims.

EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES

After reading this course, the participant should be able to:

  1. Define the “ask, validate, document, and refer/report if required by law” model for inquiring about domestic violence.
  2. Identify common signs of overall abuse and abuse specific to the head and neck region.
  3. Discuss the role of the dental hygienist in ensuring dental appointments are as stress-free as possible.
