Hand scale vs ultrasonic scaling

What is your opinion on the effectiveness of hand scaling alone vs with the use of an ultrasonic scaler? My employer shared an article with me detailing that hand scaling can provide just as good of a clean, but in my opinion they didn't consider the extra time required for the same client, nor clinician technique variations + eventual clinician strain from working.
