Non-profit reaches goal to seal two million teeth five years ahead of schedule
Wednesday, July 29, 2015 – WHAT: Oral Health America will announce that it has reached its goal to seal two million teeth on 500,000 children in need, five years ahead of its 2020 goal as part of its Seal Two Million campaign. The milestone initiative represents a fulfilled commitment to America’s Promise Alliance and youth in need of dental care.
The announcement will take place as part of the Welcome Reception for Oral Health America’s Smiles Across America® Share & Learn Conference, cohosted by SAA Program Partner Kids Smiles. SAA Program Partners from across the country will gather to learn about the process of human centered design to better understand the issues, communities and opportunities for improving oral health services provided in school-based and school-linked settings.
More than 60 SAA Program Partners and corporate supporters from across the country will be in attendance. Actors from the History Makers will provide entertainment throughout the event.
WHY: Sealants placed on children’s teeth in school-based settings is one of only two evidenced-based public health best practices directly focused on oral health. It has been proven that children receiving preventive oral care in school-based settings have an improved chance at better overall health.
During the 2014-2015 school year, OHA’s network of 304 SAA Program Partners reached more than 460,000 children in 47 states with services including dental sealants, fluoride varnish and family education.
