Most Dental Practices Offer Patients Intraoral Appliances

In a survey of more than 285 members of the American Dental Association’s Clinical Evaluators Panel, 88% noted they provided patients with intraoral appliances and 72% of those had dental assistants involved in the fabrication of such appliances. The most common intraoral appliances were whitening trays, splints, athletic mouthguards, orthodontic retainers, fluoride trays, and clear aligners. Although fabrication methods have advanced in recent years to include digital approaches, one in four responding dental practices continue to fabricate intraoral appliances via conventional workflows.
