EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES

After reading this course, the participant should be able to:

  1. Identify the characteristics and advantages of zygomatic implants as an alternative to conventional endosteal implants.
  2. Note the criteria for selecting patients suitable for zygomatic implants.
  3. Discuss the evaluation criteria, surgical approaches, and hygiene protocols for zygomatic implants, emphasizing the role of dental hygienists in preventing peri-mucositis, periimplantitis, and managing biofilm around these unique implants.

Dora-Ann Oddo, RDH, MA, is an assistant professor in the Dental Hygiene Department at New York City College of Technology (City Tech). She has also worked in clinical dental hygiene for a prosthodontic office since 2011. Maureen Archer-festa, RDH, DDS, is a professor and interim dean for the School of Professional Studies at City Tech. She has also served as clinical coordinator and chair of the Dental Hygiene Department.
