Joan Z. Steinbrenner, RDH, vice chairman of the New York Yankees and wife of the team’s late owner George Steinbrenner, has died.
Joan Z. Steinbrenner, RDH, vice chairman of the New York Yankees and wife of the team’s late owner George Steinbrenner, has died. She was 83.
Steinbrenner passed away on December 14 in Tampa, according to a statement issued by the Yankees.
Active in community projects, Steinbrenner supported numerous philanthropic organizations. She was named state chairperson for the Florida Special Olympics in 1981 and 1982, and served on the board of directors of the National Society to Prevent Blindness for 2 years.
She is survived by four children, 14 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
