Four Kids Receive Free Orthodontic Care from Georgia School of Orthodontics

The Georgia School of Orthodontics (GSO) in Atlanta has chosen four children to receive complimentary orthodontic care through the school’s Gift of a Smile Program. Started in 2016 to celebrate the opening of GSO’s orthodontic clinic, the program has provided orthodontic treatment to 17 children in the greater Atlanta area who are unable to afford such care.

Dimensions of Dental Hygiene Peer Review Panel Member and GSO’s Program Director, Ricky Harrell, DMD, MA, notes, “One of the mission statements of GSO is to provide service to the communities in which our treatment facilities are located. The Gift of a Smile, along with our Purple Hearts Program for orthodontic care of dependents of Purple Heart Recipients and the Craniofacial Anomalies Clinic Program which provides free orthodontic care to children with craniofacial anomalies, is one of the avenues through which service to the community is provided.”

The Gift of the Smile program received nearly 400 nominations for children who need free orthodontic care. The 2020 recipients of orthodontic treatment are: 8-year-old Roman Lara from Atlanta; 11-year-old Camilo Benitez from Alpharette; 11-year-old Pjaye Phinisee from Atlanta; and 16-year-old Lawrelle Dolly from College Park.

The GSO has pledged to provide $100,000 of free orthodontic care to vulnerable Atlanta-area children. To learn more, visit: bracestoday.com/gift.
