EU Commission Proposes Comprehensive Measures to Phase Out Dental Amalgam Use

Originally, the European Union (EU) had agreed to phase out the use of dental amalgam by 2028, however, its new “Proposal for Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council,” seeks to end the use of dental amalgam by January 1, 2025. It will impose a total ban on the manufacturing and export of dental amalgam also beginning January 1, 2025. The EU’s goal is to diminish and, ultimately, eliminate mercury, which is a toxic substance, from workplaces, water sources, and landfills. Dental offices will be mandated to adopt alternative dental products that are safer for the environment and for patients. Click here to read more.
