
Dimensions Adds a New Member to Its Editorial Advisory Board

Dimensions of Dental Hygiene welcomes Ann Bruhn, BSDH, MS, RDH, to the journal’s Editorial Advisory Board. An associate professor and chair of the Gene W. Hirschfeld School of Dental Hygiene (SODH) at Old Dominion University (ODU), Bruhn has been educating dental hygienists for more than 14 years. Bruhn has been recognized with several awards including the Ellmer College of Health Sciences (ECOHS )Outstanding Faculty Teaching Award in 2017, ECOHS Outstanding Mentor Award in 2022, Dimensions of Dental Hygiene’s Six Dental Hygienists You Want to Know as Influencer in 2023, Provost Faculty Mentorship Award in 2023, SODH Outstanding Alumni Award in 2024, and the ODU Alumni Association’s 40 under 40 in 2024 .
She has a robust research agenda focused on patient safety and responsible care and has widely published her work in textbooks and journals. She has presented her work at the the International Symposium on Dental Hygiene and the International Dental Hygiene Educator’s Forum in Dublin, Ireland in 2022. She has written chapters within the Darby and Walsh Dental Hygiene Theory and Practice textbook, co-authored the textbook, Exercises in Oral Radiography Techniques: A Laboratory Manual, 4th ed, and is contributing author and chapter author in the textbook, Essentials of Dental Radiography for Dental Assistants and Hygienists, 10th ed.
She currently serves as chair of the American Dental Education Association (ADEA) and co-chair of the ADEA 2026 Compendium of Curriculum Guidelines for Allied Dental Education Programs. She has received multiyear external funding from the Delta Dental of Virginia Foundation to develop and implement the Dental Health Summer Institute for high school students with an interest in the dental field. Bruhn’s research and leadership have been influential to the dental hygiene field and continue to set the tone for excellence.
