Dental Researchers Make Discovery Regarding Periodontal Diseases and Alzheimer Disease
Researchers at the Tufts University School of Dental Medicine have discovered a link between Fusobacterium nucleatum, a periodontal pathogen, and the progression of Alzheimer disease. They found that the pro-inflammatory F. nucleatum exacerbates the signs of the neurodegenerative disease. After publishing the research in Frontiers in Aging Neuroscience, the study authors hope to prove that by targeting F. nucleatum the progression of Alzheimer disease can be slowed.
