EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES
After reading this course, the participant should be able to:

  1. Identify the etiology of the opioid epidemic in the United States.
  2. List the oral and systemic complications of opioid abuse.
  3. Discuss the US Food and Drug Administration and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommendations and guidelines for prescribing opioids.
  4. Explain analgesic prescribing recommendations for acute post-operative dental pain.
