Innovations in Implant Therapy presented by Catherine Monchik, RDH, BS, MS
As implants have become the gold standard for replacing missing teeth, innovative and less invasive approaches have emerged, warranting a greater understanding of the current techniques available. As dental hygienists are charged with supporting their patients in making informed decisions about their treatment plans and long-term oral health, expanding their understanding of implant therapy options is prudent.

Catherine Monchik, RDH, BS, MS, is a full-time assistant professor in the Dental Hygiene Unit at Eugenio Maria de Hostos Community College in the Bronx, New York, and an adjunct assistant professor in the Dental Hygiene Department at New York City College of Technology. She has worked in the dental field for more than 26 years and is a licensed dental hygienist working in clinical practice in New York and New Jersey.
Strategies to Support Behavior Change for Optimal Oral Health presented by Lisa Hardill, RDH, BHADM
This course will explore the basics of motivational interviewing (MI) for practical application during dental visits. Dental hygienists will be provided the tools for new and effective ways of patient communication that foster collaboration and motivation for change, supporting optimal oral health outcomes.
Educational Objectives
- Explain the benefits and supporting evidence of motivational interviewing (MI) in dentistry.
- Discuss the foundational skills of MI and examples showcasing practical applications during dental visits.
- Identify how incorporating MI with the use of intraoral images enhances patient education and helps to improve outcomes.
Lisa Hardill, RDH, BHADM, has been a practicing dental hygienist since 2003, working in private practice, public health, and independent practice. In 2017, she became involved with dental sales and consulting, focusing on the integration of preventive products, practice growth strategies, implants, biomaterial, and digital dentistry. This led to Hardill’s current role with a leading dental service organization supporting hundreds of dental practices across Ontario, Canada. Her passion lies in motivating, inspiring, and supporting fellow dental professionals. She is dedicated to helping them love what they do, encouraging continuous learning, and raising awareness of services that can positively impact patients’ quality of life and overall health.
