Colorado Dental Succeeds in Increasing Medicaid Reimbursement for Some Dental Procedures
The Colorado Dental Association lobbied hard to get state legislators to increase Medicaid reimbursement for dental procedures and those efforts recently came to fruition. Colorado Governor Polis signed off on the state’s fiscal year 2024/2025 budget, set to take effect from July 1, 2024. Notably, the budget allocates more than $78 million toward substantial reimbursement rate increases for Medicaid dental providers. This achievement stems from 18 months of dedicated efforts by the Colorado Dental Association Medicaid Task Force. Beginning its work in fall 2022, the task force meticulously addressed Medicaid provider concerns, conducted comparative analyses with other states’ rates, and advocated for adjustments aligned with the American Dental Association Survey of Dental Fees benchmark. After extensive efforts, 28 codes received approval for rate increases, including 15 preventive, periodontic, and endodontic codes and 13 diagnostic and crown codes. Moreover, a 2% rate hike will apply to all Medicaid provider types starting July 1, 2024. Click here to read more.
