Colorado Considers Dental Therapy Bill

The Colorado General Assembly is considering a bill, SB 219, that would legalize the practice of dental therapy in the state. Colorado already allows dental hygienists to open their own independent practices since the passing of a statute in 1987. SB 219 would enable dental therapists who show proof of graduation from an accredited dental therapy program and who have passed the licensing exams required for dental hygienists to apply for a Colorado dental therapy license. If the bill passes, it will go into effect on January 1, 2023. It has bipartisan support in the Colorado State Senate. Click here to read more.
