Better Late Than Never: North Carolina Expands Medicaid

North Carolina’s Medicaid Expansion initiative is set to begin October 1. Despite the fact that the state’s General Assembly has yet to allocate funding for the program, the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) is determined to proceed. In a strategic compromise with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, NCDHHS has gained permission to begin the essential public notifications for beneficiaries, counties, and providers, while it continues to await the allocation of funds.

The funds must be allocated to NCDHHS by September 1 with December 1 serving as the earliest contingency date. In the event of a delay in funding, the implementation timeline might be pushed back until 2024. The expansion extends coverage to North Carolinians with incomes of up to 138% of the federal poverty level. Thus far, 40 states and the District of Columbia have expanded Medicaid. Click here to read more.
