Augusta University’s Dental Hygiene Program Moves to Dental School
Augusta University’s Dental Hygiene Program has officially joined the Dental College of Georgia, uniting dental and dental hygiene education under one roof. The move strengthens interdisciplinary training, mirrors real-world practice, and expands opportunities for collaboration.
Augusta University’s Dental Hygiene Program is entering a new era, officially becoming part of the Dental College of Georgia (DCG) as of August 1. Long recognized for producing many of Georgia’s top dental hygiene professionals, the program now sits alongside the state’s only dental school, where students already complete their clinical training.
This transition goes beyond administrative restructuring. By placing dental and dental hygiene students in the same college, DCG is creating an environment that mirrors real-world practice where dental hygienists and dentists work side by side to deliver comprehensive patient care. Students will benefit from closer collaboration, shared resources, and expanded opportunities to learn together in both classroom and clinic settings.
While the program will maintain cross-disciplinary ties with the College of Allied Health Sciences, the shift to DCG allows for a more seamless educational experience. Faculty and students will now be better positioned to integrate care models, strengthen communication, and build the teamwork skills essential to modern oral healthcare. Click here to read more.
