SEATTLE, March 19, 2013 — Rosalia Rey, D.D.S.,

Clinical Associate Professor of Restorative Dental Science at the

University of Florida College of Dentistry, was awarded the 2013

ADEA/Johnson & Johnson Healthcare Products Enid A. Neidle

Scholar-in-Residence Program for Women at the 2013 ADEA Annual Session

& Exhibition, being held March 16-19, in Seattle.

Since 1994, in an effort to promote the advancement of women in dental

education, ADEA has provided the opportunity for a full-time woman

faculty member with a primary teaching appointment in a predoctoral or

an advanced dental education program to explore issues affecting women

faculty through a three-month fellowship.

“Dr. Rey will survey the experiences of third-and-fourth year female

dental students and study the origins of gender inequality in the

dental profession as preparation for developing a curriculum that will

give female dental students the tools to challenge gender disparities,”

says ADEA President Gerald N. Glickman, D.D.S., M.S., M.B.A., J.D. “The

results of her work will help to change the discriminatory environment

that female dental students and professionals often encounter.”

The program’s fellowship will allow Dr. Rey to spend three months at

the ADEA office in Washington, DC, working with the ADEA Policy Center

on a range of ADEA activities designed to explore issues facing women

faculty, including promotion, advancement, and tenure policies, entry

and re-entry into the workforce, child and elder care, women’s health,

work patterns and advanced education, and research opportunities.

The program honors Enid A. Neidle, former President of ADEA (1985-86).

Under her leadership, ADEA adopted its policy of promoting the

advancement of women in dental education.
