Insight Into Why Some Develop Long-Haul COVID-19 Symptoms Is Evolving

One of the most confounding aspects of COVID-19 illness is why some people become gravely ill while others show no symptoms. Part of this conundrum is also why a percentage of those who recover from SARS-CoV-2 infection still face long-term impairments. Researchers are now beginning to understand the reasons behind long-haul symptoms, and the consensus is that the etiology is unique to each patient. Some patients are left with high levels of cytokines in their blood, increasing inflammation, while others share abnormal behaviors of T-cells, which are key components of the body’s immune system.
