
Antiviral Oral Medications to Treat COVID-19 Are on the Horizon
Three antiviral medications are currently under investigation for their ability to lessen the severity of COVID-19 symptoms and reduce transmissibility of the virus. Merck & Co, Pfizer, and Roche are testing pill regimens to see how effectively they bolster the immune system’s ability to fight infection, impede receptors in order to prevent the virus from invading healthy cells, and reduce the level of SARS-CoV-2 in the body. Similar to the drug Tamiflu, which is used to reduce the severity of the flu, these pill regimens are all undergoing clinical trials, with results expected in late fall. Click here to read more.
