University of Alabama Receives Grant to Grow Pool of Dental Researchers

The United States has a shortage of dental academicians. When clinicians enjoy more lucrative careers in private practice, it can be difficult to attract them to academia. The National Institutes of Health is striving to change that with a $3.2 million grant to the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Dentistry. Part of the National Research Service Award Institutional Research Training Grant, the funds, given over 5 years, will support the university’s Dental Academic Research Training Program, which provides a hands-on, intensive research experience for dentists interested in academic research.
