2011 Affiliate of the Year in
Recognition for Child-Saving Work
(Charlotte, NC – March 29, 2011) National Children’s Oral
Health Foundation: America’s ToothfairyÒ
(NCOHF) is pleased to announce that the University of California San Francisco
School of Dentistry – Division of Pediatric Dentistry has been named the 2011
Affiliate of the Year. The Affiliate of
the Year Award is presented annually to a member of the NCOHF affiliate network
in recognition of exemplary commitment to eliminating pediatric dental disease
in their community. As part of this affiliate network, NCOHF has provided UCSF
with over $165,000 to date in financial and product support to aid in their
efforts to deliver oral health services to underserved children.
Under the leadership of Dr. Brent Lin and Dr. Pamela Den Besten,
the UCSF School of Dentistry ensures at-risk families throughout the Bay Area
have access to comprehensive oral health care.
The UCSF School of Dentistry employs innovative NCOHF programs such as Students United for America’s Toothfairy, Tomorrow’s Smiles and Train the Trainer
to provide these families with the educational, preventive and restorative
services that they so desperately
need. Dr. John Featherstone, Dean of the School of
Dentistry at the University of San Francisco California, stated, “I am so
proud of our dedicated faculty and students who have so ably made amazing use
of the assistance offered by the NCOHF to improve the oral health of thousands
of underserved children. They have laid the groundwork for others to
follow and continue to make an impact.”
In a ceremony
in Chicago on February 24, 2011, Fern Ingber, CEO and President of National
Children’s Oral Health Foundation: America’s ToothfairyÒ,
presented Dr. Featherstone with a plaque commemorating their contribution. NCOHF also awarded
a $1,000 grant to the UCSF Students United for
America’s Toothfairy chapter in support of their ongoing efforts to
rescue underserved children from pediatric dental disease. “UCSF
has exhibited exemplary leadership and outstanding delivery in critical oral
health services to our nation’s most underserved children. It is our honor to recognize them as an
affiliate that has made such a difference in their community,” remarked NCOHF
CEO and President, Fern Ingber.
