Two Clinical Studies Show NUPRO^® Sensodyne^® Prophylaxis Paste Provides Immediate and Long Lasting Sensitivity Relief

A 4-week clinical study, conducted by J.L. Milleman et al.at Salus Research in Fort Wayne, Indiana, employed a single-site, randomized, double-blind, 3-arm parallel study to determine the effectiveness of a prophylaxis paste containing calcium sodium phosphosilicate (CSPS; NovaMin^®) with and without fluoride in reducing dentine hypersensitivity immediately after a single application and 28 days following dental scaling and root planing. The results showed a single application of both fluoridated and non-fluoridated prophylaxis pastes containing 15% CSPS (NovaMin) provided a significant reduction of dentine hypersensitivity up to at least 28 days.¹ This clinical study has been published in the Journal of Clinical Periodontology as is available free with open access. A second 4-week clinical study published in the American Journal of Dentistry in October 2012 compared the effectiveness of NUPRO^® Sensodyne^® prophylaxis paste with NovaMin, with and without fluoride, to a standard prophylaxis without fluoride in reducing dentin hypersensitivity immediately after a single application following dental scaling and root planning and compared the duration of sensitivity relief up to 28 days after a single application of the NUPRO pastes with NovaMin compared to the control paste. The results clearly demonstrated that both NUPRO Sensodyne prophylaxis pastes relieve dentin hypersensitivity when applied during a standard prophylaxis procedure and for up to 4 weeks (28 days) after a single application.²
