On June 16, Maxine Alper Tishk, RDH, MS, received The Esther Wilkins Lifetime Achievement Award at a reception held during the American Dental Hygienists’ Association Annual Session in Nashville, Tenn. During the presentation, Tishk, whose career in dental hygiene education spans more than 40 years, was honored for her many accomplishments—including starting one of the nation’s first Master of Science in Dental Hygiene Education programs at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Dentistry and helping establish one of the first dental hygiene programs in China.
Colgate’s Northeast Academic Relations Manager Denise D. Avertik, RDH, MS, noted that Tishk was “recognized nationally and internationally for her leadership roles in the dental hygiene profession.”
The 2011 award was given by the dental hygiene icon herself, Esther M. Wilkins, BS, RDH, DMD, who lauded Tishk for her accomplishments and asked the younger members of the audience to follow in Tishk’s footsteps by becoming leaders in the field.
In accepting the award, Tishk called the honor a “magical and glorious moment,” and urged those in attendance to serve as mentors to the next generation of dental hygienists.
Dimensions and Colgate congratulate Tishk for her many contributions to the advancement of dental hygiene education.
