 stuart froumCHICAGO – (November 14, 2011) – Stuart J. Froum, DDS, of New York, New York, was installed as Vice President of the American Academy of Periodontology (AAP) Board of Trustees during its 97th Annual Meeting, held November 12 – 15, 2011 in Miami Beach, Florida. 
 
In addition to maintaining a private periodontal practice in Manhattan, Dr. Froum is a clinical professor of periodontics and implant dentistry and the Director of Clinical Research in the Department of Periodontics and Implant Dentistry at New York University Dental Center. He is also a clinical assistant professor in periodontics at the Stony Brook University School of Dental Medicine. 
 
A member of the AAP since 1971, Dr. Froum has previously been active in many Committees including the Continuing Education Oversight Committee. He has also served on the Board of Trustees since 2005. Dr. Froum has been a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology since 2004. Dr. Froum is the editor and a contributing author of the book Dental Implant Complications: Etiology, Prevention and Treatment published in 2010. 
 
“This past year, Dr. Froum has been a valuable member of the AAP Board of Trustees, serving as Secretary-Treasurer. As he takes on this new position of Vice President, I’m sure that he will continue to help guide both the AAP and periodontal profession toward the future,” said Pamela McClain, DDS, 2012 AAP President.  
 
Dr. Froum received his dental degree from New York University College of Dentistry in 1970 and completed his periodontal residency at New York Veteran’s Administration Hospital in 1973.

The American Academy of Periodontology (AAP) is an 8,400-member professional organization for periodontists – specialists in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases affecting the gums and supporting structures of the teeth, and in the placement of dental implants. Periodontists are also dentistry’s experts in the treatment of oral inflammation and receive three additional years of specialized training following dental school. Periodontics is one of the nine dental specialties recognized by the American Dental Association.
