Resident Education Deferred Interest Act Is Reintroduced
The Resident Education Deferred Interest Act (REDI Act) has been reintroduced into the House and Senate and is supported by the American Dental Association Organized Dentistry Coalition. The bill would cease the accrual of interest on federal student loans while dental and medical students are in residency programs and not paying on loan principals. The legislation does not reduce or eliminate federal student loans. However, deferring interest accrual will prevent total loan amounts from ballooning before residents, who are typically low paid, are able to begin repayment. Click here to read more.
