Ransomware Gang Targets Dental Insurer in Latest Attack

The infamous ransomware gang LockBit recently launched a cyberattack on Atlanta-based dental insurer Managed Care of North America (MCNA) with devastating results — 8.9 million patient records were compromised. Members of LockBit were able to capture patient information such as social security numbers, birth dates, and driver’s license numbers. The gang then tried to extort $10 million from MCNA to prevent the sharing of these data. The insurer refused; thus, the patient data are now for sale on the dark web.
