Horlak will help shape the program’s curriculum, recruit and mentor students and faculty and coordinate partnerships for extramural clinic rotations.

“Deborah is a talented, creative educator who brings a real passion for teaching,” said Dr. Cindy Lyon, chair for the Department of Dental Practice. “I think she is the reason, in large part, that so many of our graduates are now demonstrating an interest in dental education.”

Horlak has served as a full-time faculty member at Pacific’s main campus in Stockton, Calif., since 2004. She is also a member of the Oral Health Advisory Committee with San Joaquin County Public Health Services and the San Joaquin County Task Force on Oral Health. Horlak spent more than 20 years in private practice as a dental hygienist before becoming involved in dental education. She holds a bachelor’s degree in dental hygiene from The Ohio State University and a master’s degree in higher education administration from California State University, Fresno. Horlak is currently pursuing an EdD in professional education and leadership from University of the Pacific.
