ANNAPOLIS, MD—The Organization for Safety, Asepsis and Prevention (OSAP) recognizes International Infection Prevention Week and is using this opportunity to announce its new name, look and message.
OSAP was formerly known as the Organization for Safety & Asepsis Procedures. Its name change and new forward moving logo with the tag line, “Because Safety Matters,” symbolizes OSAP’s relevance, said Executive Director Therese Long.
“By supporting and acknowledging Infection Prevention Week, we felt it was the right time to launch the new OSAP,” Long said. “We are advocating for the prevention, not just the control, of transmissible diseases. We’re accomplishing this by serving as the voice for leadership and compliance with dental infection prevention and safety policy development, education, research and service.
“Our strategic rebranding has attracted new leadership that has helped build successful alliances throughout the national and global dental communities.”
OSAP is currently working with the FDI World Dental Federation and the International Federation of Dental Educators and Associations on a multi-professional patient safety curriculum guide, and the Association of State and Territorial Dental Directors on an infection prevention and safety program. OSAP also provided expert input to the National Institute of Occupational Safety & Health (NIOSH) research agenda and was invited to participate in its Healthcare & Social Assistance Sector Council Meeting. OSAP’s participation in that meeting led to federal funding that will support an OSAP dental project in 2012-13.
About International Infection Prevention Week
Designated during the third week in October, International Infection Prevention Week is intended to be an educational opportunity for staff and the community to better understand the importance of this critical issue. One of the easiest ways to prevent the spread of potentially infectious contaminants is with effective hygiene techniques like appropriate hand washing. Hand washing has and continues to be the most beneficial and economical way to prevent the spread of infections and disease.
