Organized Dentistry Lobbies to Improve Access to Dental Surgery for Underserved

Representatives from the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, American Dental Association, and American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons have requested a meeting with the United States Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to discuss the need to improve access to dental rehabilitation surgery in hospital settings for children and adults with special needs. The organizations suggest that limitations placed on access to operating rooms due to the global pandemic have hindered the ability of dental professionals to perform such surgeries. The consortium has asked CMS to create new Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System codes for dental procedures performed under general anesthesia. Click here to read more.
