NYU Researchers Find Protein That Supports Oral Cancer Growth

Research conducted at the New York University (NYU) College of Dentistry has uncovered an essential protein, ORAI1, that feeds the growth of oral cancer tumors and intensifies the associated pain. The scientists hope this discovery will enable specific targeting of this protein in order to improve outcomes for patients with oral cancer. The scientists examined tissue samples from human oral cancer tumors and healthy tongues, discovering a significant overexpression of ORAI1 in the diseased tissue but not the healthy tissue. The study results were published in Science Signaling. Click here to read more.
