Non-Profit That Helps Domestic Violence Survivors Access Dental Care Receives Grant
Six months ago, Finding Our Voices was launched with the goal of helping victims of domestic violence receive dental care in the state of Maine. Thus far, 18 dentists — including periodontists and oral surgeons — and two dental labs have agreed to volunteer their time and services to help patients identified by Finding Our Voices. Recently, the Elmina B. Sewall Foundation gifted the organization $10,000 to support its mission. Finding Our Smiles provides cosmetic dentistry, such as the fixing of a patient’s chipped front tooth after receiving a punch to the mouth from her partner; emergency dental treatment; and restorative therapy following neglect, such as a woman who had extensive decay after her partner refused to allow her to brush her teeth.
