New Research Sheds Light on How Inflammation Impacts COVID-19 Risk
Study results from Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) are helping scientists understand why individuals with inflammation-related health problems—such as asthma and diabetes—are at greater risk for severe COVID-19-related illness. OHSU researchers found that inflamed capillaries were more easily infected with SARS-CoV-2 than capillaries without the presence of inflammation. The study was performed in vitro, and has yet to undergo peer review. But researchers hope this information will help create more effective treatments for those at increased risk for negative COVID-19 outcomes. Click here to read more.
