New Research to Investigate Etiology of Early Childhood Caries Among Underrepresented Groups
The Eastman Institute for Oral Health at the University of Rochester in New York has received a $3.5 million grant from the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research to study the factors behind early childhood caries in minority groups. Headed by Jin Xiao, DDS, PhD, the 5-year study will analyze 2,000 saliva samples from underrepresented mothers and infants to map out their oral microbiomes. Researchers hope to better understand who is at high risk for early childhood caries so prevention efforts can be better targeted. Click here to read more.
