NATIONAL MUSEUM OF DENTISTRY INTRODUCES NEW TRAVELING EXHIBITION AT ADA ANNUAL SESSION
BALTIMORE, MD (October 27, 2008)—The Dr. Samuel D. Harris National Museum of Dentistry introduced its newest traveling exhibition, Your Spitting Image, to attendees of the ADA Annual Session in San Antonio October 16-19, 2008. Slated to begin touring children’s and science museums across the country in 2009, Your Spitting Image explores what your mouth says about you with hands-on activities and computer animated programs. Visitors can step into the role of a forensic investigator to solve mysteries, see what’s in the remarkable fluid called saliva, and find out how scientists are using bioengineering to grow replacement teeth.
On display at the ADA Annual Session was the Healthy Mouth, Healthy Body portion of the exhibition that highlights the importance of oral hygiene and the mouth-body connection. A ribbon cutting kicked off its appearance with ADA President Dr. Mark Feldman and exhibition sponsors Rich Kochmann of Patterson Dental Foundation, Dr. Elizabeth Roberts of Johnson & Johnson Consumer & Personal Products Worldwide, Chelly Smith of Planmeca Inc., Dr. Leslie Seldin, and Dr. Constance Winslow. Also in attendance were National Museum of Dentistry friends and supporters, including Executive Director Rosemary Fetter and ADA Eighth District Trustee and Board of Visitors member Dr. Dennis Manning.
“We have brought a small part of this exhibit to San Antonio to introduce you to the innovative oral health exhibits that the National Museum of Dentistry develops and tours as part of its traveling exhibition program,” said Dr. Leslie Seldin, Your Spitting Image sponsor and Chair-Elect of the National Museum of Dentistry’s Board of Visitors. “Now you can bring it to your home town.”
Your Spitting Image is the latest in a series of successful nationwide traveling exhibitions created by the National Museum of Dentistry, recognized for its innovative exhibits and programs that educate the public about the importance of oral health in a healthy life. These exhibitions, including MouthPower, Branches, Bristles and Batteries: Toothbrushes Through Time and The Future is Now!: African Americans in Dentistry, have reached more than 2 million people at children’s and science museums and other venues throughout North America.
Your Spitting Image is made possible by a lead gift from Patterson Dental Foundation with major funding from Johnson & Johnson Consumer & Personal Products Worldwide, Planmeca Inc., Drs. Leslie W. Seldin and Constance P. Winslow, and Dr. Laurence E. Johns and Dr. Robert J. Wilson.
