Kansas Considers Interstate Licensure Compact

The Kansas state legislature is considering HB 2453, the Dentist and Dental Hygienist Licensure Compact, which aims to facilitate interstate practice for dental professionals. This compact would enable dentists and dental hygienists to work across state lines, addressing the challenges posed by the traditional requirement of obtaining separate licensure for each state. Kansas has witnessed a nearly 5% increase in dental professionals between 2019 and 2022, prompting the need for streamlined licensure procedures. HB 2453 seeks to establish an interstate compact that would allow oral health professionals from participating states to practice more freely without unnecessary red tape. It proposes the creation of a database to track clinicians’ records and disciplinary actions, ensuring only those with clean records are eligible for the compact. The bill has garnered widespread support in the House and is now awaiting Senate review. Click here to read more.
