Four Scholarships of $10,000 Each To Be Awarded
CHICAGO, IL – Hu-Friedy, a global leader in the manufacturing of dental instruments and products, recently announced the winners of the “Hu-Friedy Nevi Scholarship” Program at a special press conference, held at the 2012 Yankee Dental Congress Meeting in Boston, Massachusetts. Four scholarship awards, each worth$10,000, will be awarded to registered dental hygienists to assist them in continuing their education. The announcement of the four winners marks the end of the “Host Nevi Tour 2011,” in which a mascot, resembling Hu-Friedy’s Nevi 4 posterior sickle scaler, traveled around the U.S.A., visiting each state. Nevi’s “hosts” for each state came from requests sent in by Friends of Hu-Friedy members (www.friendsofhu-friedy.com), asking for the chance to have Nevi stay with them. After each visit, Nevi’s hosts shared their photos and experiences on Nevi’s Facebook page, which currently has nearly 1,500 friends. (www.facebook.com/nevi4). For every state Nevi visited, Hu-Friedy donated $1,000 dollars to the Hu-Friedy Nevi Scholarship fund.
The scholarship winners are Ilya Babiy of Troutdale, OR; Diane Daubert of Mercer Island, WA; Andrea Jordan of St. Paul, MN; and Jana Pasquarella of Schenectady, NY. Each winner, as with all the applicants, submitted an extensive scholarship application package which was reviewed by a confidential review panel convened by Hu-Friedy.
“We are pleased to announce these four winners, and appreciate the positive response from the dental community in support of the Hu-Friedy Nevi Scholarship Program,” said Ken Serota, President, Hu-Friedy Manufacturing, LLC. “Advancing dental performance through education is one of our main objectives at Hu-Friedy, which is why we created this scholarship program. The review board had incredibly tough decisions to make, as all the applications were very impressive. The four winners that were chosen are shining examples of excellence, dedication and passion, and we are excited to see their future contributions benefit the dental community.”
Nevi 4 will be traveling onto Canada for the “Host Nevi Tour 2012” where Canadian RDHs will have the same opportunity to apply for a scholarship. Details of the 2012 tour will be announced in April of this year.
