April Is Oral Cancer Awareness Month

With early detection and treatment, oral cancer is highly survivable. Unfortunately, many cases are diagnosed in late stages. April is Oral Cancer Awareness Month, which highlights the importance of screening, especially at every dental appointment. Traditionally, exposure to tobacco and alcohol has been the most common risk factor. Today, however, infection with the human papillomavirus (HPV) is increasingly responsible for oral cancer.
