ANDY WHITEHEAD REJOINS OSAP BOARD

andy whiteheadANNAPOLIS, MD: The Organization for Safety and Asepsis Procedures (OSAP) has selected Andy Whitehead, Vice President of Crosstex International, to complete a term on the Board of Directors vacated by Boyd Relac, who has left the dental industry. Whitehead is a prior member of the OSAP Board and served as Chairman 2005-2007. He has more than 30 years of experience in the dental industry, working on both the distribution and manufacturing sides of the business, and has been involved in infection control and safety throughout most of his career.

“Andy brings substantial marketing expertise, as well as extensive OSAP experience to our Board,” says OSAP Executive Director Therese Long. “We are delighted that he has agreed to come back on board.” Whitehead was one of the Founding Members of OSAP in 1984. He has served on the OSAP Board as Secretary, Treasurer, and Chairman. He was also instrumental in expanding the annual OSAP auction, which provides significant funding for the organization. Its success is due in large part to Whitehead’s expertise as auctioneer. He now serves as auctioneer for several other organizations in the dental industry, including the Dental Trade Association, American Dental Assistants Association, American Dental Hygienists’ Association, and (in 2009) Oral Health America.

A major goal for OSAP in the coming year is to build pathways for dental hygienists and dental assistants to connect with OSAP for infection control and safety assistance. “Dental hygienists and assistants often serve as the Infection Control Coordinator in dental practices,” says Whitehead. “I am looking forward to helping OSAP develop ways to assist them in performing and improving the infection control procedures practiced in their offices.”

OSAP is the Organization for Safety and Asepsis Procedures. Founded in 1984, the non-profit association, through its publications, courses, website, and worldwide collaborations, OSAP and the tax-exempt OSAP Foundation support education, research, service, and policy development to promote safety and the control of infectious diseases in dental healthcare settings worldwide.
