Chicago–July 7, 2009– Lynn M. Ramer, LDH, of Logansport, Ind., was inaugurated as the 2009-2010 president of the Chicago-based American Dental Hygienists’ Association (ADHA) on June 23, 2009, at the association’s 86th Annual Session held in Washington, D.C.
“I am honored to have the chance to lead ADHA in the coming year,” Ramer said. “I look forward to continuing to build on the groundwork established by recent presidents on the many important issues currently facing the profession of dental hygiene. Ensuring that oral health care is included in health care reform is a top priority and a welcome challenge.”
Ramer has served in a number of positions within ADHA including a delegate and an alternate delegate, a four-year term as the district V trustee, and the board advisor for both the Council on Public Relations and the Council on Education. Most recently Ramer served as the president-elect of ADHA. Ramer has also served as the president, president-elect, vice president, treasurer and delegation chair for the Indiana Dental Hygienists’ Association. Her service to Indiana extends to the local component level where she served as president, among other positions.
Ramer received her Associate of Science in dental hygiene from Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne in 1982. She currently works in clinical practice at Perfect Smiles Dental Care in Kokomo, Ind.
In 1997 Ramer was the recipient of the Indiana Outstanding Dental Hygienists’ Association Service award and is a regular volunteer in her community. She has spent time educating both preschool and kindergarten children on the importance of good oral health, has participated with her dental office in the “Dentists Delivering Smiles” program, and has been a participant in the “Doctors With A Heart” program, which provides services to those in the community who cannot regularly afford such care.
Ramer succeeds Diann Bomkamp, RDH, BSDH, of St. Louis, Mo., as president. Bomkamp remains an ADHA officer as immediate past president, as well as the 2009-2010 chair of ADHA Institute for Oral Health.
Additional ADHA officers installed at the annual session include: Caryn Solie, RDH, of Sparks, Nev., president-elect, and Pamela L. Quinones, RDH, BS, of Rockville, Md., vice president. Remaining in their positions are Speaker of the House Kimberly Hickman-Bowen, RDH, BSDH, MA, of Middleton, Del., and Treasurer Hope Garza, RDH, BS, of Houston, Texas.
The newly installed district trustees for 2009-2010 are as follows: Diane S. Peterson, RDH, M.Ed, of Montpelier, Vt., District I (Maine, Mass., N.H., R.I., Vt.); Jill Grassmick, RDH, of Luray, Va., District III (Del., District of Columbia., Md., Va., W.Va.); LouAnn M. Goodnough, RDH, BSDH, of Burnsville, Minn., District VII (Minn., N.D., S.D., Wis.); Sandra L. Tesch, RDH, MSHP, of Austin, Texas, District IX (N.M., Okla., Texas); Sharon Zastrow, RDH, of Scottsdale, Ariz., District XI (Ariz., Calif.).
Re-elected district trustees for 2009-2010 are as follows: Denise E. Bowers, RDH, MSEd, of Lima, Ohio, District V (Ind., Ky., Mich., Ohio).
District trustees continuing their term for 2009-2010 are as follows: Dinah G. Auger, RDH, BS, of Norwich, Conn., District II (Conn., N.J., N.Y., Pa.); Norine Ryan Dowd, RDH, BHSc, of Lake Placid, Fla., District IV (Fla., Ga., N.C., S.C.); Victoria E. Richards, RDH, BS, of Nashville, Tenn., District VI (Ala., Ark., La., Miss., Tenn.); Carole F. Danielson, RDH, MPH, of Worth, Ill., District VIII (Ill., Iowa, Kan., Mo., Neb.) Laurie K. ADHA is the largest national organization representing the professional interests of the more than 150,000 dental hygienists across the country.
