CHICAGO – The American College of Dentists (ACD) recently awarded Arthur A. Dugoni, D.D.S., and 10 other dentists with its Lifetime Achievement Award. Dr. Dugoni, a former American Dental Association (ADA) president and immediate past president of the ADA Foundation, was among the ACD fellows recognized for 50 or more years of ACD membership.
Other award recipients were Melvin H. Amler, D.D.S., of New York, William A. Johnson, D.D.S, of Illinois, Paul W. Kunkel Jr., D.M.D, of Oregon, Eugene S. Merchant, D.D.S., of Nebraska, Leonard R. Moore, D.D.S., of New Jersey, Julius N. Obin, D.D.S., of Florida, Lyle E. Ostlund, D.D.S., of Minnesota, Louis G. Terkla, D.M.D., of Oregon, and John A. Watson, D.D.S., of California. John G. Whinery, D.D.S., of Amarillo, Texas, was honored posthumously.
“I want to congratulate all the 2010 fellows,” Dr. Dugoni said during the ceremony. “Your life will never be the same. It’s a wonderful opportunity to lead, and I am grateful for this award.”
Dr. Dugoni was the only honoree to receive the award in person during the ADA’s Annual Session in October. Dr. Dugoni, dean emeritus of the University of the Pacific, Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry, has been an ACD fellow for more than 50 years. The dental school was named after Dr. Dugoni in 2004. The ACD, which was founded in 1920, is the oldest national honorary organization for dentists.
