ADEAGies Foundation Announces 2010 William J. Gies Awards for Vision, Innovation, and Achievement Call for Nominations

WASHINGTON, DC (July 8, 2009) — The ADEAGies Foundation invites entries for the 2010 William J. Gies Awards for Vision, Innovation, and Achievement (The Gies Awards). The Gies Awards, named after dental education pioneer William J. Gies, Ph.D., honor individuals and organizations exemplifying dedication to the highest standards of vision, innovation, and achievement in global oral health and dental education, research, and leadership.

The Gies Awards will be presented at a highly anticipated celebration in conjunction with the 87th ADEA Annual Session and Exhibition. The 87th ADEA Annual Session and Exhibition will be held February 27 – March 3, 2010, in Washington, DC; the Gies Awards will be conferred on Saturday, February 27, 2010.
”The Gies Awards are an inspiring new tradition in the dental education community,” said Richard W. Valachovic, D.M.D., M.P.H., President of the ADEAGies Foundation and Executive Director of the American Dental Education Association (ADEA). “The ADEAGies Foundation looks forward to a strong field of nominations that honor Dr. Gies’ legacy and the achievements of dental educators of all kinds.”

The honorees will be selected by a distinguished panel of judges consisting of the ADEAGies Board of Trustees. Bestowed at a black-tie dinner celebration, the Gies Awards offer significant visibility both within and outside the dental education community, drawing much needed attention to the essential role of dental education and educators in enhancing global oral health and education.

The 2009 Gies Awards honorees were (in alphabetical order): American Academy of Pediatrics; Case Western Reserve University School of Dental Medicine; Columbia University College of Dental Medicine; Dominick P. DePaola, D.D.S., Ph.D.; Arthur A. Dugoni, D.D.S., M.S.D.; the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation; Judith Ann Jones, D.D.S., M.P.H., D.Sc.D.; University at Buffalo Ph.D. Program in Oral Biology; and the University of Puerto Rico School of Dental Medicine.
