ADEA Presents 2009 ADEA/Sigma Phi Alpha Linda DeVore Scholarship
WASHINGTON, D.C.—The American Dental Education Association (ADEA) presented the 2009 ADEA/Sigma Phi Alpha Linda DeVore Scholarship to Shannon Ann Walker at the 86th ADEA Annual Session and Exhibition in Phoenix, Arizona.
Ms. Walker is a student in the Department of Dental Hygiene at the Medical College of Georgia School of Allied Health Sciences (MCG). She is currently pursuing a B.S. in dental hygiene and is president of the Dental Hygiene Class of 2009. A member of the Dean’s list at MCG since 2007, Ms. Walker has also been a Hinman Scholar and a Dental Hygiene Department Alumni Scholar.
“ADEA is honored to partner with Sigma Phi Alpha in honoring the significant achievements of Professor DeVore,” said 2008-09 ADEA President Charles N. Bertolami, D.D.S., D.Med.Sc. We wish Ms. Walker the best in her academic endeavors.” The scholarship is awarded to an individual pursuing allied dental education study at the baccalaureate, master’s, or doctoral degree level. It recognizes the memory of the 30-year dental education career of Linda Rubinstein DeVore. Prof. DeVore was active in dental hygiene education, scholarship, and public service. She served as President of the American Association of Dental Schools (now ADEA) in 1994, and President of the Supreme Chapter of Sigma Phi Alpha, the national honorary society of the dental hygiene profession, from 1997 to 1998.
