ADA Makes a Push for Action for Dental Health Act

A newly reintroduced federal bill aims to tackle dental workforce shortages and improve access to care for underserved populations. The Action for Dental Health Act of 2025 would allocate funding through an oral health workforce grant program, with strong backing from the American Dental Association and bipartisan support in Congress.

The United States House of Representatives has reintroduced the Action for Dental Health Act of 2025, a bipartisan effort to reauthorize funding for oral health workforce programs and expand access to dental care nationwide. The bill, supported by the American Dental Association (ADA), would extend grants to organizations working to address dental workforce shortages, reduce geographic and language barriers, and improve preventive care outreach.

With workforce challenges ranking among the ADA’s top concerns, leaders in the profession see this legislation as a vital step toward strengthening the nation’s oral health infrastructure. In a letter to congressional sponsors Rep. Mike Simpson, DMD, and Rep. Robin Kelly, the ADA emphasized that reauthorizing these grants would help recruit and retain dental professionals, particularly in underserved areas.

Since 2018, the Action for Dental Health program has supported initiatives aimed at reducing untreated dental disease and enhancing patient education. As the bill moves forward, the ADA will continue to advocate for its passage, reinforcing the critical role that a well-supported workforce plays in ensuring equitable oral health care for all Americans.
