Veneer Application Without a License Brings Criminal Charges

A Georgia man who promoted himself as a “veneer technician” is facing more than 100 criminal charges for allegedly practicing dentistry without a license and causing harm to hundreds of patients. The case highlights growing concerns about unlicensed cosmetic dental services promoted through social media and the risks they pose to patient safety.

The arrest of Brandon Dillard has sent ripples through the dental community, underscoring the very real consequences of unlicensed individuals performing irreversible dental procedures. Dillard, who operated primarily in the Atlanta area, allegedly earned more than $4 million between 2021 and 2024 by offering cosmetic dental services despite the fact that he had no dental license. Prosecutors say his operation appeared legitimate, complete with a professional-looking office and a strong social media presence that attracted patients seeking affordable veneers.

According to the indictment, Dillard performed procedures, such as veneer placement, restorative therapy, and orthodontic appliance removal, actions that fall squarely within the legal scope of licensed dentistry. Patients reportedly experienced chipped and broken teeth, abscesses, pain, sensitivity, and discoloration, all of which required corrective care by licensed oral health professionals.

The charges are extensive and include practicing dentistry and medicine without a license, theft by deception, insurance fraud conspiracy, drug possession, and violations of Georgia’s Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act. The case also involves alleged collaborators, including another individual accused of helping train others to perform veneer procedures and an attorney accused of advising on how to avoid regulatory scrutiny.

Earlier this year, the American Dental Association addressed the rise of so-called “veneer technicians,” emphasizing that dentistry is a regulated profession requiring formal education and licensure to protect patients from irreversible harm. Dillard is scheduled to be arraigned in January 2026. Click here to read more.
