OSAP Welcomes Two New Members to Friends of OSAP Program
ANNAPOLIS, MD—August 23, 2011—The Organization for Safety, Asepsis and Prevention (OSAP) welcomes Sir Liam Donaldson and Dr. Anne Eiting Klamar to its Friends of OSAP advisory program. As a non-profit association, OSAP’s mission is to advocate for the safe and infection-free delivery of oral healthcare while identifying, developing and supporting leaders in dental infection prevention and patient safety.
Through their involvement with Friends of OSAP, prominent leaders and visionaries help integrate oral infection control and safety strategies into national and global health efforts. Co-chaired by Dr. Lois Cohen and Nancy Tomich Zapp, the Friends of OSAP has representatives throughout the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and New Zealand.
The addition of the esteemed Sir Liam and Dr. Eiting Klamar expands the Friends of OSAP network to 21 global leaders

Sir Liam Donaldson is the Chairman of the National Patient Safety Agency for the United Kingdom. On July 21, WHO Director-General Margaret Chan named Sir Liam as WHO Envoy for Patient Safety. In this role, Sir Liam, who served as England’s Chief Medical Officer between 1998 and 2010, will help the Organization promote patient safety as a global public health priority.
Sir Liam’s leadership in making patient safety a priority for healthcare systems around the world is just one of his ground-breaking achievements. His report, “An organisation with a memory” has shaped policy on patient safety in the UK and his chairmanship of the World Health Organization’s World Alliance on Patient Safety has spurred global action.
Sir Liam has been published in more than 150 peer-reviewed journals, is co-author of a standard textbook of public health, and holds two higher degrees and 14 honorary degrees as well as fellowships of many Royal Colleges and professional bodies. He served as the 2011 Dr. John Zapp Memorial Lecturer as a guest of the Friends of OSAP. The Dr. John Zapp Memorial Lecture was established in 2006 by the Friends of OSAP, as part of the annual OSAP symposium.
Dr. Anne Eiting Klamar is the president and CEO of Midmark Corporation, a worldwide manufacturer and distributor of healthcare, diagnostic and software products for medical, veterinary and dental markets. Klamar joined the company in 2000 as president and became CEO in 2003. She is the fourth generation of the Eiting family to hold a leadership position.
Dr. Eiting Klamar began her career practicing medicine at Family Practice Physicians in Urbana, Ohio, in 1993. She served as director of the Well Child Clinic. She was elected to the Midmark’s Board of Directors in 1993. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Michigan and her doctoral degree from the Ohio State University. She is also a graduate of the Owner/President Management program at Harvard Business School.
Dr. Eiting Klamar’s company, Midmark Corporation, has supported the Friends of OSAP Zapp Lecture for the past three years.
